Jim's work is currently on display in the Ashland Hardwood Gallery in Ashland, Oregon, and in four California galleries - the Fine Eye Gallery in Sutter Creek; Gallery M in Half Moon Bay; One Of A Kind in San Francisco; and 7 Fine Arts in Pleasanton. All of the work shown below was available for sale to collectors at the time we visited Jim. While he turns bowls, lamps, pens, ornaments and all kinds of other forms, Jim specializes in segmented turning. He loves to teach, and combines these two attibutes in a downloadable PDF file on his site which teaches other woodworkers how to tackle this challenging art form. As long as you're not going to reprint or publish the file, he invites you to access this document and join the ranks of segmented turners. (That didn't come out right: it sounds like the turners are segmented, doesn't it? -Ed.) |
|
In addition to the segmented turning document, Jim has published a numbers of articles, papers and training handouts for the use and aid of all woodturners. Among the topics in these PDF files are Sharpening Lathe Tools, Turning Greenwood Finished Edge Bowls, and Woodturning Safety Rules. All of these can be found on the Techniques page of his Web site. Following is a small gallery of Jim's work. Much more can be seen on his Web site. |

When he's not turning bowls and vessels, Jim's hollow Christmas tree ornaments (like the ones shown at left and right) are executed in redwood, maple and buckeye burls, with ebony and bloodwood finials. |
