WOODezine - Volume II - Issue II - FEBRUARY 2004

Formerly the Sage Sentinel

Hello again,
Every editor likes to have new things to share with his or her readers, and in this issue I am blessed! There have been several really big changes this month here at Pronghorn.biz, all of which are designed with you in mind.

The biggest change by far has been the conversion of our woodworking newsletter, the Sage Sentinel, into a fully-fledged eZine. Aside from the new name (WOODezine), the entire format has evolved and has definitely become a whole lot more user-friendly. Instead of a very large downloadable pdf file (which a lot of readers were complaining took way too long to download), we've created this whole new Web site for the eZine.

We've added several new features this issue, too. We now have a Classifieds page which is free for all subscribers. If we're eMailing you to tell you when the new issues are available, then you're a subscriber. So start selling! All we ask is that your ads are about 50 words maximum, are directly related to woodworking, carving or woodturning, and that what you are offering is a legitimate product or service. (We reserve the right to edit or cancel any ad if we think there's anything even remotely fishy going on.)

A lot of you have eMailed us to say how much you enjoy our woodworker profiles. (Last month, we featured master turner Ellis Hein.) So we've decided to make the profile a regular feature. In this issue, we visit the shop of furniture artist Mark Koons, a nationally renowned woodworker who has studied with Maloof and Krenov, and is currently carving new trails in both design and execution.

So many of our subscribers are turners that we decided to start a separate woodturning page in this issue, called Turning Tidbits. It's starting out small but we're pretty sure it will rapidly become a pillar of the publication. If you have any tips, tricks, methods, projects or other turning information you'd like to share with other turners, please don't be shy. Send me an eMail and we'll get the ball rolling. In addition to the news page (Turning Tidbits), we've added Turner of the Month, a profile of an exception woodturner and his/her work. This month we visit Art Liestman, an extraordinary artist who is doing some incredible things on his lathe.

This month's feature is a piece on how to buy hardwood. While that doesn't sound like a tricky thing to do, we've had several experienced woodworkers read the article and each of them was a little surprised to find out that he learned a few things.

This issue also sees the launch of our New Products page. Manufacturers are invited to send us information on their latest woodshop products, which we can share with our readers in short order. That's because we publish every month (instead of bi-monthly, like most magazines), and we don't have to wait to have the issue printed or even mailed to our readers. On the first of every month, you can see what's new just by logging on. Plus, we'll be providing links to each of the manufacturer's sites so you can go there and get more information, see similar products, or even ask them questions.

Oh, and we've uploaded a very special Desktop Download, which you can use as a background or screen saver.

So, while the shop is warming up on one of these chilly February evenings, fire up the computer for a while and peruse our pages. And if you'd like to contribute a tip, article or even a photo, please drop me a line. We can't make you rich, but we'll certainly work on making you famous.

Take care,
John
