Sustainable Teak Source

If you want to use teak and rosewood, but you don't want to be part of commercial or tribal deforestation, you now have a viable option. East Teak Fine Hardwoods, Inc., an industry leader in quality teak and other fine hardwood products, has launched a new section on their Web site that is dedicated entirely to recycled, eco-friendly products. Located at www.certifiedteak.com, it carries on a tradition born when East Teak became the first supplier of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, 100% post-consumer recycled teak and rosewood in North America.

The new Web site is the result of growing demand from architects, designers and contractors who are looking for sustainable, FSC-certified timber because of concerns about the potential impact of building materials on the environment.

All of East Teak's reclaimed woods are recovered by hand from old structures and recycled for new use, thereby avoiding the need to fell living trees. Each piece brings the unique characteristics of 60-100 years of aging, which results in a very distinctive and durable product. In addition, the wood is individually hand graded to ensure the highest quality and reusability of the wood.

Founded in 1972, East Teak Fine Hardwoods, Inc. has become the leading importer of high grade teak and other fine hardwood species used as decking, flooring, walls, ceilings and cabinetry in the construction of yachts, hotels, resorts, office buildings and luxury homes. From its facilities in South Carolina and Washington, East Teak serves the architectural, up-scale residential, commercial construction, hospitality and boating industries throughout the United States, the Caribbean and Canada.
