Woodturning loses True Friend
Albert LeCoff of the Woodturning Center forwarded an e-mail to us from Arizona art gallery owner Joanne Rapp who wished to share the news of the passing of Edward Bud Jacobson. "He was a great friend to the wood turning field," Ms. Rapp wrote, "and... a personal friend to both Jim and me and a supportive friend to my gallery and to the artists I represented. Bud represented community service at its highest level and we all will miss this dedicated spirit very much."
Mr.Jacobson was a member of the Board of the Phoenix Art Museum for over thirty years, during which time he donated more than 200 paintings worth millions of dollars to the Museum. He also donated to, and was on the Board of the Heard Museum.
Of note to woodworkers all over the country was his collection of turned bowls, which toured the nation as a Smithsonian exhibit before it was donated to Arizona State University.

New Router Bits from CMT
Those orange guys have done it again. They have a whole new line of carbide insert bits, so new they weren't even on the CMT Web site yet when we went live. These bits have replaceable micrograin carbide knives that are secured with torx screws for quick changes. There will eventually be over 30 profiles in stock, but all nine in the photo at right are already available.

The company also has added to their selection of super-sized straight bits with the bit shown at left. This is a 3/4" diameter cutter with a 2" cutting length and a 1/2" shank. The straight bit is item # 812.691.11 and there's also a top-bearing version for template routing. That number is the same - just add the letter "B" to the end of the number.

9 to 30 Inch Slides
BLUM now offers three new longer length Tandem runners that are perfect for their Space Corner cabinet solution (shown at left). The new heavy duty runners come in lengths for 24", 27" and 30" drawers. They're rated at 110lb dynamic load and are perfect for 36", 39" and 42" corner cabinets. This makes the Tandem line the most comprehensive concealed runner program on the market, with lengths for drawers from 9 to 30 inches. And the new runners come with the Blumotion (smooth and silent) closing action that has been so successful, they've integrated it into all their Tandem 562 standard and 568 heavy duty runners. This lets the installer use the standard 1-9/16" rear drawer notch and still get the unbelievably silent closing action of Blumotion.
