woodezine - Volume II - Issue VI - June 2004

Hi Folks,

June already!
Half the year gone and I still haven't cleaned the shop. Well, it's tidy enough, but you know what I mean - moving machines and vacuuming behind them, washing windows so we get some daylight, cleaning cobwebs from the corners.
Spring cleaning.
The best I can say is that, with a bit of luck, spring might just come to my shop during June.

June is generally a slow time for woodworking, unless you're making a living at it. So, it's a little surprising how much news there is at this time of year. Everybody seems to be putting on trade shows, craft shows, exhibitions, sales, introducing new products and hosting other special events. With that in mind, we've expanded the NEWS section to three pages in this issue. We publish every month (most print mags only come out six times a year), which allows us to be that much more timely and up-to-date.

One of the most exciting tidbits of news around here is that our latest informal subscriber survey indicates that over 90 per cent of you belong to at least one guild, club or association. So, it's not surprising that I get a lot of e-mail from all over the world, telling me how Woodezine is being discovered, shared and used by clubs and their members...

Dear John,
On behalf of the Pacific Woodworkers Guild and the Greater Vancouver Woodturners Guild, thank you so much for letting us know about Woodezine. It is very insightful.
Best wishes and happy woodworking,
Steve Hansen,
Editor, Pacific Woodworkers Guild
VP Greater Vancouver Woodturners

Sometimes, the club newsletter editors want to reproduce some of our content, which I find highly flattering...

John,
I just came across Woodezine and immediately signed up. And now, I'd like to ask for a favor from you. As editor of Wood Chips, the monthly newsletter for the Arizona Association of Fine Woodworkers, I'm always on the lookout for solid, informative material to present. And that's what I found in the Intro to Hand Planes article in the April issue. I'd like to reprint Intro to Hand Planes in our upcoming May issue for two reasons: 1) It's a great, concise, and well-written article that will be of interest to all members, old heads (for reminders) and new guys (for starters); and 2) It will be a great introduction to Woodezine, which I plan to recommend to our members in that issue. Of course, with your permission. And, of course, I'll give proper credit to woodezine. And, do I need to say it? I'm impressed with your woodezine.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
John Shacklock
Editor, WoodChips and www.azfinewoodworkers.org

If you are a member of a club and would like to use some of our content in your publication, please feel free. All we ask is that you don't edit the text, and you let people know the source. Somewhere, include the line "Courtesy of http://www.woodezine.com".

This is the first issue of Woodezine to include ads. As you know, the magazine is free, and always will be. Ads help us to pay the bills. There will only be one ad per page, always at the bottom, and only from the most reputable partners. There will NEVER be any pop-ups or any of that other shady stuff. And you'll always be able to click on any ad to go directly to the vendor's site.

Finally, I'd like to suggest that you bookmark the Table of Contents page in your "Favorites" list every month, so you can come back to us whenever you have a free minute.
Until next month, remember to wear your safety glasses!

Take care,
John
