The Little Book of Log Cabins
William S. Wicks

Originally published in 1904, this re-issue of an American classic is charming, collectible, and actually pretty practical. Written at a time when the how-to world was in its infancy, this is not as much an instruction book as it is a place to go for concepts and ideas. Anybody contemplating building a log home or outbuilding will enjoy the quaint narrative and more than a hundred line drawings illustrating homes, lean-to structures, contruction techniques and even furniture. Well worth the price ($6.95 U.S.)

Harvesting Urban Timber,
A Complete Guide

Sam Sherrill

Three to four billion feet of lumber are being fed either directly or indirectly into landfills throughout the U.S. every year. Sam Sherrill explains how and why we need to stop this. He details how local businesses, governments and individual woodworkers can start harvesting this essentially free and almost invaluable resource. Sherrill covers felling, safety, conversion, seasoning and sawing. He covers kilns and cuts - flat, quarter and rift - and devotes a huge section to people and organizations who are already doing their best to stop this incredible flow of waste... and reaping the benefits!
