New Cordless Impact Drivers and Wrenches

On May 5, Hitachi Power Tools launched the DMR series of cordless 9.6, 12, 14.4 and 18-Volt impact drivers (shown at right) and wrenches (not shown). With a 5-year warranty, their industrial-grade, 2-piece motor with heavy gauge copper coils delivers maximum power output. Hitachi's unique Cool Flow system provides a steady stream of cooling air to the motor, and the DMR line of impacts offers more power than a traditional cordless drill (from 930 in-lbs of torque up to 1,950). Weighing between 3.1 lbs and 4.6 lbs depending on voltage, they are incredibly well-balanced and ideal for working in tight spaces. There's a 5-position adjustable belt hook and an integrated LED worklight that can illuminate dark workspaces such as inside a cabinet. Plus, they look so cool with that aggressive new ergonomic design being implemented by Hitachi Power Tools.

Hitachi's DMR impact series comes complete with two high-capacity batteries, charger and a carrying case. For more information, call 800-829-4752 or visit www.hitachipowertools.com.

Powerful Small Router Feels Good...
and Routs near Backsplashes

Bosch Power Tools and Accessories' new 1 HP Coltª Palm Router line will launch this summer in a basic single-speed model (PR10E), and in a variable-speed router kit (PR20EVSK), followed by an installer's kit with multiple bases (PR20EVSNK) in Fall 2005.

The Bosch Palm Routers offer unprecedented power in their class. The PR10E powers 35,000 RPM (no load) for fast smooth routing in various materials, while the PR20EVS boasts speeds ranging from 16,000 to 35,000 RPM for materials and tasks that require speed flexibility. Both models offer soft-start to reduce start-up torque, and Constant Responseª electronics to maintain speed under load for smooth and accurate cuts and overload protection. They have an ergonomically shaped motor housing and the Bosch router quick-clamp system, plus advanced quick macro and microfine depth adjustment systems. Other features include a spindle lock for easy one-wrench bit changes, self-releasing collet for 1/4" shank bits, a durable phenolic sub-base, imperial and metric fine adjustment scales, angled cord exit and externally accessible brush caps. Bosch also offers a Durable Offset Base with a quick-clamp system which provides the ability to rout near vertical surfaces, such as kitchen counter backsplashes.

Bigger Machines at Discount Prices
A couple of weeks ago we received an e-mail from Ed Bellezzo who had a question about a project designed by our editor, John English. (The project was a tall Arts & Crafts style linen cabinet which John recently built for Woodcraft magazine.) A phone call followed, and that was when we discovered that Ed runs a company in California called JWK Machinery Sales. Ed supplies machinery to individuals and shops that are outgrowing their standard woodworking machines. He has equipment like the Tannewitz Advantage 36" bandsaw shown at right. If you're about ready to take the next step, a quick visit to his site might be a good idea.
