Mike Wells
|
Mike Wells was born and raised in southeast Tennessee and started carving seriously in 1983, a couple of years after he joined the Army. He spent 21 years traveling the world. While stationed in Germany he was exposed to great European wood carvers. For several years, he carved wood spirits and small caricature pieces, but eventually decided to branch out into more realistic busts and full figure pieces. |

| Mike served four overseas tours, during which time he saw a wide variety of different carving styles from other countries in Europe and Asia. |

Mike has "been fortunate enough to become friends with some of this country's best wood sculptors, and through them I have learned more than I could ever give back. ĘThe talent and skills of people like John Burke, Vic Hood, Larry Rogers, Jeff Phares and Danny Greene cannot be overstated, and they have had a tremendous influence in my carving development over the years." Mike tries to continuously evolve and improve his art, as well as develope a recognizable style all his own. He is now retired from the Army and has started a second career. I lives in Grantville, Georgia with his wife Linda and two Shetland sheep dogs, Max and Tater. |
| "It is my most sincere desire," he says, "to help promote and advance the art of wood carving and to share with others this art form that I have grown to love so much." |
