North Bennet St. School
Expansion

| Since 1885, Boston's not-for-profit North Bennet Street School has been the place to go for aspiring artisans seeking an education in craftsmanship. In 1991, NBSS added short-term courses for serious amateurs and professionals seeking to enhance their skills. During the past fourteen years, demand for these courses has been increasing so steadily that this year, North Bennet Street School made an unprecedented commitment of resources to its workshop program. The result is a wide range of new courses, additional sessions of old favorites, increased classroom space, and more top name instructors who have helped build the reputation of this unique program. |

A highlight of the new workshops are one, two, and three-month intensive fine woodworking classes including machine use. Other new woodworking offerings include inlay, banding, and veneer; upholstery; drafting and drawing for furniture making; shop set up; workbench building; and carving. Joining the workshop staff as a full-time woodworking instructor is NBSS Cabinet and Furniture Making graduate Dan Faia (94), a self-employed, New Hampshire based artisan who has taught numerous courses in Windsor Chairmaking, and contributed frequent articles to Fine Woodworking Magazine. Another NBSS graduate, furniture maker Janet Collins (CFM '96), serves as Workshop Program Director, overseeing offerings in woodworking, jewelry making, piano technology, bookbinding, and upcoming additions in locksmithing and violin making. |
