Carving Tidbits

Congrats, Efframs!

Tim and Deborah Effram are celebrating the 50th. anniversary of the founding of their company, Wood Carvers Supply, Inc. The business was started by Tim's parents, master carver Chris Effram and his wife Kay.
Congratulations, folks!

Wood Carvers Supply is based in Florida, but the Efframs want everyone to know that they are thankful to have had no hurricane damage and are operating as usual. By the way, they have a new chuck called the Stealth Handpiece (too new for a photo) that accepts shanks from 0-1/4". It fits many of the major flex-shaft models.

National Wood Carvers Association

From a handful of members at its beginning in 1953, the NWCA has grown to over 46,000 members. Currently, the NWCA has members in each of the 50 United States and in 47 countries from around the globe! The Association is probably best known for its publication, Chip Chats. Six times a year, NWCA members receive a magazine full of useful information for, and great carvings by wood carvers. It ranges in length from 148 to 164 pages. In addition, there are no paid advertisements, so the pages are taken up only by great articles about, and pictures of carvings. For more info, click here or on the image.

Pro Carvers' Resource

We've had a quick look at this site, and it seems like it might be a useful resource for carvers who make all or some part of their living as a professional. According to the site owner, Richard Collins, there are over 400 pages of resources and tools, and 12,000 links on the site. Among the people who visit the site each month are "sculptors of all kinds, associations, suppliers, schools, foundries, gallery owners, agents, buyers, collectors, manufacturers, movie makers, museums, designers, 3D animators, event managers, model makers, writers, historians, and other individuals interested in sculpture."
