New Turning Catalog
It's been out for a few months, but the new woodturning catalog from Woodworker's Supply (catalog #SP1) is definitely worth a close look. The catalog features thousands of specialty tools, and pages of lathes from Woodtek, Nova, Oneway, Powermatic, Delta, JET and Fisch. The prices are quite reasonable, thanks to WWS's buying power.

Ottawa Carving Competition
The Outaouis Wood Carvers Inc. are hosting their18th Annual "Canada's Capital Carving Competition" on December 2nd through the 4th at Lansdowne Park in the Aberdeen Pavillion, Ottawa, Canada. This annual competition is held in conjunction with the Ottawa Wood Show.
To be eligible, entries must have been completed since Nov 2003. No entries will be accepted after the deadline of 8:30 A.M. on Friday, December 2, 2005.

New Marquetry DVD (or VHS Tape)

  
Want to start creating marquetry or working with wood veneers? Jan Walker's Introduction to Marquetry contains 100 minutes of superb quality video. This instruction walks you through everything you need to know to start creating your own marquetry. Learning is always easier if you can see the task performed. Pen Turning Acrylic Blanks
The press release from Woodcraft says that these acrylic acetate pen blanks are made from a "spectacular plastics material especially designed and engineered for writing instruments". There is a wide array of color (more than 30)and patterns, and they polish up beautifully. Individual blanks sell for $3.99 and five or more reduces the price to $3.50 apiece. The featured artist at the NWCA 25th Anniversary show and sale is Thu Nguyen, who carved the incredible figure at right, Lady with a New dress. (Click on his name to see more of the wonderful artist's work and read his bio.)
The event will be held at Pavilion Hall on the grounds of the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, Washington on November 12 and 13 this year. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and parking is free. The show features a juried gallery, free demonstrations, raffles, an auction, tools, books, wood, seminars, a banquet, woodcarving sales and chainsaw carvers.
