Special Offer from Festool

We received the CD at left in the mail this month from Festool, and it contains a pretty decent offer from the company for people who want to move up to German engineering in their power tools. There are several vidoes on the disk of various Festool products in action - routers, saws etc., and their impressive guide system, too. Everything they make is a notch above the competition. Their engineers are obviously woodworkers, or have advisors who are. They give you those little extras we all wish for, and throw in a bunch of innovative features, especially in their dust collection designs. I've been a cabinetmaker for almost thirty years and I have to say that the basic quality of their tools is nothing short of superb.

Variable Speed Sander

On September 15th, Hitachi Power Tools announced its new 5" variable speed random orbit finishing sander, the SV13YA. The sander has an ergonomic palm grip in Hitachi's signature "inspire" design, and a best-in-class rating for sanding performance. Its powerful 230 Watt, 2.0 Amp motor provides an impressive 7,000 to 12,000 RPM which is ideal for this tool's ball bearing construction. A sealed switch protects the sander from dust and an integrated dust collection bag extends the life of sanding paper. There's a hook and loop pad system for quick removal and application of sanding sheets. Standing at only 5-11/16" high and weighing only 3 lbs, this compact sander is easy to use for long periods of time and particularly appealing when sanding overhead.

The Hitachi SV13YA comes complete with five pieces of 5" sanding paper and a dust bag. Also available is asingle speed version. For more information, call 800-829-4752 or visit www.hitachipowertools.com

Bosch Power Tools and Accessories has a new four-piece, 18-volt Cordless Combo Kit called the CPK40-18. It's backed by what the company claims is "the industry's most reliable tool protection plan, Provantageª", and it certainly sounds that way. More information about the program and various tools included can be found online. The new kit also comes complete with a soft-bag carrying case.
