New Quick-Set connectors from Knapp

Cabinet Connector from Knapp

The new Quick-Set connector is a simple and efficient two-part dowel that's designed to assemble casework quickly. With a glue free design, the threaded stud and plastic sleeve simply click firmly into place so that RTA cabinets and closet systems can be put together easily, on or off-site . Self-tightening and self-locking, the Quick-Set connector is processed in much the same way as a conventional wooden dowel but in a much shorter time because neither gluing nor clamping are required. In addition to its main area of application as an RTA cabinet connector, it can also be used for drawer boxes, shelving and bookcases. The Quick-Set from Knapp Connectors is available in Cabinet Vision, and comes in several sizes.

Chair Building Plans Help With Covid 19

Brian Boggs started making chairs 38 years ago and has written for Fine Woodworking and other magazines on the subject since the early '90s. He also taught chairmaking internationally while making chairs and other furniture for a national clientele. One of his students, Jeff Lefkowitz, became his assistant and in 2012 began teaching students how to make Boggs' post and rung designs in his own shop in Strasburg, Virginia. Jeff drew up plans for three slat ladderback chairs, and there's also an accompanying blog full of instructions on how to build this classic design. During this national health emergency, Jeff has made the side chair plans available on a "Pay What You Can Afford" basis. This means that any amount you pay for these plans will go to either Meals On Wheels or UNICEF. For those not in a position to donate, you are just as welcome to avail yourself of this resource.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL™ 30 Degree Framing Nailer

Coming Soon!

The new M18 FUEL™ 30 Degree Framing Nailer from Milwaukee Tool combines a nitrogen spring mechanism, Powerstate™ brushless motor, and Redlink™ Intelligence to deliver pneumatic performance with the convenience and freedom of cordless power. With the power to sink full round head nails into dense engineered lumber, this framing nailer fires 3 nails per second with zero ramp-up time, meaning a nail is fired as soon as you pull the trigger. AThe gun uses RedLithium™ Batteries (not included) and sealed compressed nitrogen to drive each nail, eliminating the cost of gas cartridges and the maintenance associated with other nailers. It brings power and precision to the jobsite without the hassle of a compressor and hose, or a gas cartridge.

Water Resisitant Laminate Flooring

The International Woodworking Fair (IWF Atlanta) reports that Quality Wood Floors has released a new hard surface flooring that, in tests, resisted water for three days. The collection is made by the Swiss manufacturer Swiss Krono. "Our nationwide dealer network loves this collection," says George Braica, VP of Operations for Quality Wood Floors. "It's water resistant, very easy to clean and has excellent sound-insulating barriers. They also appreciate how easy the large planks are to install because, unlike any other laminate, this can be floated or glued down." It is suitable for bathrooms, laundry rooms and other spaces that attract water. The planks are 14 mm thick, 80 inches long and 9.6 inches wide.

Faster Joinery for Small Shops

For smaller shops that aren't quite ready to invest in a CNC, the Versidex Indexing System turns a biscuit joiner into a production machine for a fraction of the cost. The system delivers much faster biscuit joinery, and Domino® floating tenon joints, too. The key is a mark-free indexing system that can be used over and over again. This dedicated joinery workstation saves a great deal of time, delivers repeatable accuracy, and allows the joinery phase of production to work more efficiently, and profitably. It handles bevel joints from 15 to 45 degrees, and works in materials up to 1-1/2" thick. Decidedly low-tech and very well thought out, all Versidex models are designed to operate trouble-free and with great accuracy for many years.

The Blind Stapler

Attach Face Frames in Seconds

Using no glue or clamps, The Blind Stapler uses 1" standard staples instead of pocket screws or biscuits to attach face frames to boxes, a drop edge to a shelf, or solid wood edging to a countertop. And because it leaves no marks, it's ideal for both new construction and re-facing. There's no need for putty or touch-up, and the casework and face frame can be completely finished before assembly. The high quality tool is made of anodized aluminum and has lots of built in safety features. To use it, just load a rack of 1" x 1/4" crown staples in the carriage, attach a 1/4" air line to the quick release nipple, and press a button to align and clamp the face frame to the cabinet box. Then press the second button and the staple is automatically driven at an angle, invisibly securing the face frame to the box. Invented by woodworker Stuart Topp, there's a video on the website showing how it works.

A Scribe for Cabinetmakers

Every now and then, WoodEzine comes across some simple little gadget that can just make a woodworker's day a little better. Meet the new handheld ScribeTec from Milescraft, which is a perfect little gizmo for scribing all kinds of fit and finish materials such as architectural moldings, cabinet trim, countertops, and even face frames that sit against a wall. The ScribeTec will maintain consistent offsets and stay parallel to surfaces, giving an installer a perfect line to sand to. The articulating pencil head offers flexibility for scribing over a variety of materials, and the tool's compact design means that it takes up very little room in the toolbox. It works with No. 2 pencils, carpenter pencils, and Sharpie® (or similar) markers, has a built-in pencil sharpener, and a retractable, spring-loaded metal point for highly accurate scribing. ($9.99, Sku 8407.)

Acimall's Xylexpo show dates changed for 2020

Italian Woodworking Show Dates Changed

One of the biggest shows in Europe for the woodworking industry, Xylexpo in Milan, Italy, has changed its scheduled dates to accommodate the Coronavirus problem. On April 14 the show organizers announced that the event would be moved from its traditional May date to November 10 through 13. The decision was made by the Board of Directors of Cepra, the operating arm of Acimall. That's the Italian woodworking technology association who own the exhibition. "This is going to be a very different edition from those we have been used to," said the association president, Lorenzo Primultini. "But it will allow the entire supply chain to meet again and look ahead, after missing a key event for wood and furniture technology."

Woodcraft

Circular Blades From Woodcraft

Woodcraft Supply has entered the saw blade manufacturing market. To launch its WoodRiver® saw blade line, the company selected four 10" carbide-tipped table saw blades. There's a 40-tooth ATB (alternate top bevel) thin kerf that works well for both ripcuts and crosscuts. The Glue Line Rip is a 30-tooth triple-chip full kerf that's optimized for ripcuts in material up to 1". The resulting cut is so smooth it does not require further machining (jointing or sanding) before gluing. The Heavy-Duty Rip is a 24-tooth flat top full kerf that will quickly rip material from 3/4" to 2-3/4" thick, and the resulting surface will usually require further milling or sanding before final use. And the WoodRiver® Precision Trim is an 80-tooth ATB full kerf for very precise, clean crosscuts in both hardwood and plywood. A 12" miter blade and a dado set are also on the way.

Decorative Five-Point Star Inlays

Slab Stitcher is mostly known for metal and wood butterfly (bow-tie) inserts for repairing cracks in live edge slabs and the like. The company has just introduced a new line of five-point star inlays, and it recommends purchasing two species of wood to mix and match the insets to give a project more variety. Available are 1/8″ thick precision cut 4" inlays in a variety of species including cherry, maple walnut, osage, padauk that come in a standard 3-pack. These are part of a system where a woodworker invests in a starter pack or master pack that includes the jig and router bits with some basic templates, and then upgrades with "add-on packs" that are essentially jig inserts with different templates.

Workstation for Shaper Origin

A Workstation fo Shaper Origin

The new stationary Workstation combines with the very portable Shaper Origin to create a precision cutting system. It allows a shop to mill perfect mortise and tenon joinery, even at an angle (such as stool legs). One can perform detailed cuts on small or difficult-to-fixture workpieces with the included Shelf (at left). Quick setup features make repetitive cuts for volume production fast and reliable. There's no better way to make box joints, and Workstation encourages inventive woodworkers to make their own custom fixturing mounts to hold unusually shaped workpieces.

mini-Mega Flush Trim Router Bits

The new mini-Mega Flush Trim router bits from Infinity Cutting Tools share the same unique compression geometry and dual bearing design as the company's full-sized Mega Flush Trim Router Bits, but with a ¼" shank. They're perfect for use in compact and trim routers, and the compression geometry and dual bearings deliver the smoothest finish and long life. The compression geometry makes them ideal for both flush trimming and pattern routing applications, and they are right at home in full-sized routers and router tables when needed. The 06-128 has a ½" diameter and 1" tall cutter height. The 06-130 has a 5/8" diameter to maximize finish quality in reversing grain and a 7/8" cutter height. And the 06-131 has a 5/8" cutter diameter with a 1-3/8" cutter height, which is perfect for working with 5/4 and 6/4 stock. Video
